steering column parts

Took my steering column apart to freshen it up. On the shift tube I found two rectangular
nylon pieces that fit into grooves. Of course in my infinite wisdom, I broke one of them
 Anybody know what these pieces are called or where to get them?

 :wave:seems to be from the collapsable steering shaft?i wonder how they wound up on your shift tube ..it looks similar to the pics Jules have shown, off the stuff injected in the steering shafts?

That's what I was thinking too!

Did you pull the two parts of your main shaft apart, or do they come apart now?

These nylon pieces fit into a notch on the shaft with the lock ring on it.
This shaft fits into the shift tube. The shaft also has slots machined into
 it to fit these nylon pieces.
 A couple more pictures. Finally getting better at attaching pictures. LOL

Yep, that is the main shaft.

Those two nylon peices keep the colum from collapsing, but are designed to break and collapse the column during an accident/ impact.

There nylon is injected in the shaft when assembly.  You will have to come up with something to inject into the spaces if you want to fix it.  Some guys will say, to leave it and put it back in the car, as it will not move once it it is installed (but I would fix it if it were me).

Uh yaaa... now that I look at it that way I started looking for the
rest of the parts.     Bought the car as a basket case and guess what didn't
come with the basket.  Yep, the rest of the shaft, coupler and who knows what else.
Back to the drawing board... and more swap meets I guess.
