Primer
« on: September 21, 2011 - 08:52:23 PM »
Will be abrasive blasting the bottom of my car soon along wth the engine bay, inner fenders, etc.  Two part (2k) epoxy primers seem to be all the rage, in particular PPG.  Looking at their site, it is listed as DPLF (lead free).  The have a variety of colors.

I see most threads reference DP40 - grey/green.  Is this just the most neutral color or are others better for final top coats?  Am leaning towards Hemi Orange.  They have white (48), grey (50, red oxide  (74) and black (90).

First time painting with spray guns.

PPG is a tough epoxy primer. Nothing wrong with that. But now there's new Hybrid "direct to metal epoxy" primers out.

These aren't as hard as PPG once cured. Body shops are now switching over to these. I've been using Xtreme. It works really good. After bodywork.  The stuff isn't cheap either. 60 bucks per Qt. for the primer/activator.

I'll be sealing my car shortly in a PPG primer. Possibly tinting it a lt. blue if my painter approves.
