    I bought a NOS piece and it doesn't have those holes. I don't have an S/E, or a Challenger that originally had a panel back there. I don't see why those holes are necessary.   :clueless:

    Kurt thx for the pic and info, mine looks just like that. I think trying to find this easy to find, not very expensive part is the ticket, and covers the holes!

    Btw - First time on this site..wanted to say great site and thx all for all the input.

    There are little spring loaded clips that slide onto the back of the se panel that a stud is mounted to that help hold the part tighter to the body when bolted in properly.

    I have an SE but no trim above the tail lights and no holes like in the pics, maybe my panel in not original    :dunno:

    Has to be a different fender tag option or seperate assembly plants were using different parts for the same code. Maybe she was replaced.

    This is a factory SE rear moulding that has never been out of the original packaging.  I bought it in 1980 from my local Dodge dealer.  I do not have the hardware to show you.  On the back of the moulding there are slots.  These slots are the same as the slots that are in the trunk moulding and quarter mouldings.  They are so that mounting hardware can be inserted and moved to match up with the holes in the body and bolted down.  This is why there are 6 holes in Mikecarguy's tail light panel.

    I have come across the tail panels having holes or not having holes.  My guess is that the mounting holes were added due to rattles from the SE trim.  It is only a guess. I know the 70 console plate rattled so Chrysler added another screw to it late 70 early 71 to stop the rattles or buzzing from the plate.  Maybe cars came back with warranty complaints so a change was made midyear.  Either way Mikecarguys car has them.  They will need to filled or a SE trim will need added.  This is the reason I asked about a fender tag.  The SE mouldings were available on non SE cars.  My buddy has a 6 cyl Challenger with the mouldings.  It was an option that most likey was on Mikecarguys car.

    The next question is this:  are there two SE rear mouldings; one with slots for the mounting hardware and one without the slots.

    My 70 R/T is not an SE, but it was optioned with the SE trim package and it has the 6 holes for the rear moulding.  :2cents:

    OK......my SE has those holes also but they are not for the mounting of the panel........I really didn't pay too  much attention but will look closer tomorrow......right now they are I guess just covered with the panel.  It is secured from the top..........


    Edit...........guess I should have read page 2...............The 6 holes make sense now...........but mine was secured from the top............Factory...........???  Don't know........Built in Oct of 69..
