Hard to find a close up pic.... are you looking for placement of the louvers/pentastar?

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I just could not remember seeing a Pentastar on a Louvered Challenger. I was wondering how it looked (too busy, ?)

I gather some 72's and 73 had them, some did not ... It is like a mixed bag.

My 72 has had work done, including filling the Antenna hole, so I am not sure if mine had one or not.

My wife's 73, I just can not recall if it had one or not, and I am not sure the fender is original on her car.

And since most cars are missing original parts after "restoration"  I was hoping to see a few pics.

I will likely put one back on my 72, and will have to talk to Monta about her 73.

I don't believe any 72-74 Challengers came from the factory with the Pentastar.  That was a 70-71 thing.

Posts on this board claim original fenders into 73 with them, I dunno.

There was a service bullitin posted on here that placed them on 72's

My dad's 73 dodge truck has it, my 65's, the 69 had them.  I just don't know.

I plan to strip the fenders down when the time comes and look

Maybe 72 was the last year then.  My 73 didn't have one.  Check out Hamtramck historical.  It show a 72 with one.  Be careful though as the data books were published before production.  Some options shown in the pictures didn't always make it to production.  I'd bet that if the louvers were ordered, the Pentastar was deleted.

Yes, so many preproduction images, data...

I wondered about the Louvers vs. the Pentastar ...

My '72 according to the original owner still has all the original metal.  It does have the pentastar.

It is a Rallye but because it came with the factory body side moulding I believe the side louvers were deleted so I can't tell you about the louvers and the pentastar.

Look at the enlarged version of this brochure pic.  (click on the pic to enlarge).  You will see a Rallye car with louvers and a pentastar.

Here is a '73 brochure, no pentastar but then again, it is not a good pic so I dunno....

It's hard to tell what's happened to a car over the years.  I like it with the pentastar.  Just weird how it's only on the passenger side fender....  :dunno:

What's also strange about the 72 brochure, is that the blue Challenger has dual exhaust AND a flat hood.  If the 340 was ordered, the Rallye hood was supposed to be standard.  Again, it's one of those things where the brochure's don't match what really happened in production.

If you look closely at the 73 brochure with the gray Challenger Rallye on the cover, you'll see some interesting things.  It's accually a 72 that was airbrushed for the photo.  The vinyl top is the 70-72 style and so are the fender mounted turn signal lights.  There are no bumper filler pieces on that car and the large bumper guards are painted on the picture.

Fender mounted turn signals?  My wife's 73 has those, and I have seen a fair number with them ... do you say they should not have them?

The housings changed in 73.  The picture shows the 70-72 style housing.  It's smaller and attaches different then the 73+ lights.

Super Blue, I read once that Mopar only put the Pentastar on the Pass. side as a "subliminal" advertising thing. Their way of thinking was the car would be parked at a curb, and people walking by not might not know what brand it was, but they would notice the Pentastar and recognize it as a Chrysler product. Kind of cool!

Ohhhhh, so that's why!  Never heard that before!  I thought they were just trying to save money by only placing it on 1 side!!!  :roflsmiley:
