belt pulleys

so now I got the car running ran into a little problem, BTW it runs great!!!!, my new problems is pulleys my water pump pulley is bent on the back side and likes to throw the alt belt. power steering is fine. well trying to find another used pulley to replace is like finding a virgin in a whore house, if someobdy has one they are keeping it. I hit local junk yards, craigs list and ebay but not finding much. anybody have any ideas where to get a cheap one (used or nos). if not cheap, any nice kits

the pulley is off a 78 winnebago it is a two groove pully the the back side is alt and the front side is PS

Try some of your local parts houses. The O'Reilly here in Bozeman, MT was trying to sell me an alternator w/o a pulley until they found a double. It was wierd, they had ones w/o pulleys, ones with double pulleys and spare pulleys.

I can check my garage for my old alternator, I'm pretty sure I threw it out 2 years ago.

I'll check anyway.

Mancini has pulley kits , I might even hvae the one you need but it is about 5000 miles from here

Thanks Guys I will take a look at Mancini, the pulley I need is actually the one on the water pump not alt pulley,  not sure how the hell that got bent but it is, I figured it would be a fairly simple find here in colorado but I was wrong

so a stupid question (I am good at those) the pulley is bent on the back side is there a way to straighten this out it just a has a little wobble to it, maybe a machine shop??? hoping to take the car to the Golden Super Cruise this weekend

Pulleys are the worst , there are so many different combinations & offsets depending on the damper thickness , I have probably 4 spare pulleys I have collected as none of them fit what I was trying to do , I highly recommend you keep the set of pulleys that came with the engine but the problem comes in with transplants , if you take a 440 out of a motorhome it will have a matched set of pulleys but not what you need for a car install so now you need to get a set from somethings else , I have 1-4 groove crank pulleys , some are all the same diameter some the front pulleys are smaller or larger , some hit the water pump pulley so that must have had a smaller water pump pulley to work .
 I an sure you could straighten the pulley somewhat but wether it will be enough to keep the belt on I am not sure  .

ya at this point I am thinking about going to a machine shop and see if they can make me one, one place here says that they should have no problem making and aluminum one for about 50 bucks. thinking of going that way. any opinions on that?

$50? WOW that's a deal! the aluminum material alone would cost more than $50!  :o

I did look at those but did not look correct thanks though a link I am going to keep, and Chryco was right, looking at places there is all makes and sizes out there, so I might try and see what the machine shop says

maybe this will help ,

passenger car

the water pump housing from the current engine may need replaceing plz post picture

if you have power steering  / ac  -- you will need the pulleys in double  (passenger car)   (shallow water pump pulley)

you have no ac / power steering  there is a set up for that  (shallow water pump pulley )


there  is also a set up for no ac no power steering ( its just the single pulley set up ) water pump pulley is deeper

now here is where the confusion starts if you dont have power steering (inside crank pulley / alt )
the ac is on the out side .

your best bet is to determine if your going to have ac / power steering or neither .

Sorry man, I couldn't find the old alternator. I would take up the machine shop on the aluminum pulley deal in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even think twice.
