A/C vents
« on: December 22, 2004 - 06:11:48 PM »
another quick question in my marathon dash restore this week:

is the trim around the A/C vents supposed to be chrome or just flat silver.  I need to know whether to use my sally hansen chrome nail polish on it or one of those "4Cruzin special" silver paint pens.  Thanks!

all the ones I have seen are chrome. So how good is the Sally Hansen nail polish? I too am looking for a restoration product for these

I havent tried it yet, but I've heard it works well.  I'll post some pics when I get them done.

I had my girlfriend pu a bottle; it isnt much different than spray can chrome paint that you can brush on however it is a little thichker. There has got to be a product that restores these without having to resort to the plastic platers. BTW, if you go the plater route, they plate the ENTIRE part. You would have to protect the face edges and repaint the unit black again.

Here is something I ran across - products are crazy expensive but looks like they are available. The van almost looks like it was photoshopped - ck it out:

Have you guys already thought of using 4C's marker idea?  Here's the thread.

the silver marker is convenient enough but the finished product is about as good as the chrome nail polish or paint scheme. It just isnt shiny chrome like was on the vents originally.

I would be interested in any hobby type solutions out there that will restore a chome finish to these. Surely those model car nuts out there have a product solution for this

Testor's has the chrome in spray can. You'll probably have to go to a hobby shop to find it. I've never used it, but my guess is that it will leave a similar finish as those little chrome pieces in car model kits.

Hi Steve - I think it will be like all the others that at best will look like dirty chrome.

I know what you mean. I tried the chrome in a can one time and got the dirty silver look. BUT, I wouldn't be surprised if the Testor's stuff comes out shiney. Would someone please try it and let us know? I don't have any plastic to paint right now.

I'll try to pick up some testors when I get ready to do the vents and check it out.
