Scary Halloween anniversary for me
« on: October 31, 2011 - 05:19:59 PM »
I can't believe it's been 20 years since this happened.
My passion for E bodies was rekindled while recovering though.  I'd been spending all my money and time on aviation for 3 years, then I was laid up for over a year recovering.  While doing that, I was reading a lot of car magazines and thinking about my T/A and about what kind of E body I'd like for just having pleasureful drives.   That is when I realized a convertible would be great to have!   I looked off and on for a few years but finally found a really nice convertible I still have an enjoy today.  If I hadn't got sidetracked from flying I wonder if I'd still have gone that path!

Glad you are okay!  :grinyes:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I'd like to say nice landing (no snark) as it must have been given the looks of your plane and the fact you made it through.

A friend is currently working to get his pilots license. Very intense learning process for sure. Meanwhile his mostly original 67 Mustang Fastback sits in the barn awaiting restoration. One day he may settle back to earth.

Just got back from flying today, believe it or not.  After recovering I went on to get my commercial license, 3 instructor ratings, and then my ATP!
I've instructed as a side job for over 16 years now, even flew some charters for a while.  None of my students have ever so much as scratched an airplane, unless you count one or two instances where guys scraped a wingtip pushing a plane back into a hanger after flying.
Halloween is not a good day to go flying....... my accident happened in '91, and American Eagle flight went down in Renssalear IN on Halloween 1994 with no survivors, an Egyptian Air 767 crashed off the coast of MA on Halloween of '99 and 217 people perished.  And just yesterday Rick Hendricks plane crashed on landing, though fortunately it was more of a big repair bill type incident as opposed to a "crash".
Spooky stuff, I am fortunate to have survived an accident where it would have been a miracle to have come away intact enough for an open casket wake, let alone survive with just a little limp and a few scars to show for it! :eek4:
