Just got back from flying today, believe it or not. After recovering I went on to get my commercial license, 3 instructor ratings, and then my ATP!
I've instructed as a side job for over 16 years now, even flew some charters for a while. None of my students have ever so much as scratched an airplane, unless you count one or two instances where guys scraped a wingtip pushing a plane back into a hanger after flying.
Halloween is not a good day to go flying....... my accident happened in '91, and American Eagle flight went down in Renssalear IN on Halloween 1994 with no survivors, an Egyptian Air 767 crashed off the coast of MA on Halloween of '99 and 217 people perished. And just yesterday Rick Hendricks plane crashed on landing, though fortunately it was more of a big repair bill type incident as opposed to a "crash".
Spooky stuff, I am fortunate to have survived an accident where it would have been a miracle to have come away intact enough for an open casket wake, let alone survive with just a little limp and a few scars to show for it!
