Master cylinder and booster color

I need to redo my brake master and booster, some previous owner painted them body color.
 What was the original color for a 74 Chally?

I'ved seen black booster with steel master, goldish booster and some silver.

As you can see, I can't look any more under my hood, its soooo wrong! lol

You have the Midland Ross booster.(banded) Those were zinc dichromate plated.(the yellow/gold plating)  The master itself was left bare metal.  The finish on the cover is being debated.  Some came bare metal(maybe phosphated) others came zinc dichromate plated.

Some cars came with a Bendix booster that has the two halves crimped together.  Those were painted black.

Thank for ther info. I  know what a  Midland Ross booster is!

Do you guys think if I try to use paint stripper to take that paint off, what are the chance to bring the zinc finish back?

*edit* After decoding my fender tags.....my car come with manual brake..... so its not original, but I will try to get it back to a factory finish

It's highly doubtful that the original plating is still in good shape.  Painting the booster to look like the correct plating never turns out looking right.IMO

You have two options.  You can send the booster to Booster Dewey for a rebuild and replate...or you can just paint it black.  If you paint it, you can fill/sand all the pitting out of the case.  If you have it replated, you have to live with any pitting that is present.

I won't send it for a rebuilt since everthing work fine.

I will strip them this winter and see what condition they are in opnce totaly stripped.

If I go black on the booster, what finish would be correct, high gloss, semi-gloss, dull?

And in 1974, any inpection sticker or label was on those booster?

You could try separating the halves and sending the pieces out to be replated yourself. 

In 1970 the boosters were painted gloss black.  The paint back then wasn't very good and it didn't shine like the gloss black of today.  The paint may dull a little with engine heat so I'd spray it gloss.

You must be in Canada :canada: as i see the Eliminator Battery from Canadian Tire :lol2:

Just paint the Booster Black if everything works fine, your motor is not a stock set up so you can do what you like and it will look good with the rest of the set up.

Another one jealous of my battery lol  :roflsmiley:  Look cool doesn't it  :bigsmile: with the flame and everything lol

Here is my 74 Cuda that I had Booster Dewey restore.  He does great work.
1974 'Cuda 512 stroker 650HP Indy heads, Hemi 4 speed, pistol grip - restored to new.
