Lunati Hyd roller lifter question
« on: September 11, 2011 - 08:27:25 AM »
Has anyone used Lunati hyd roller lifter #72338LUN . I'm leaning towards this for my 451" build.
I have 2 questions,
1- do they oil up thru the pushrod? I'm going with a T&D set up that needs oiling up the pushrods.
2- I've been reading about some lifters at full lift having the oil groove exposed, causing a internal oil leak? Something to do with chamfers on the block?  Is the oil groove location Ok with this lifter?
Any other info you know of , let me know! :2thumbs:
Thanks Brad

Call Lunati
I used lunatis solid lifters in a big block & the oil groove on them was too low exposing the oil groove & dropping the oil pressure to near zero

To low? I thought the issue was to high and it was exposed at the top of the lifter bore at full lift?
If it's to low then that would vary depending on the cam base circle diameter? Am I "seeing" this right?

maybe it was the high side I know I did some careful measurement s & with lower base circle I think it was open at the bottom & bleeding 12 lifter at a time either way they would not work & we ahd to replace the set with Mopar lifters

Was it a Lunati cam and lifters? Like a matched kit? Just thinking if you were to mix manufactures.... things might not match up? Different base circles etc...

Brad, I used the Lunati Hyd. Rollers in my 500 LowDeck build. if I recall right they did have oil to the PR and the oil band was fine within the limits of my cam lobe lift. Oil pressure was rock steady with no weird fluctuations during the 8 dyno pulls we put it thru and no valve float detected at 6400 RPM's  so far I like their product, I know you picked another excellent USA made lifter and thought I would post this to show others we have a viable hyd. roller lifter thats so far quality made and works good. My lifters cost me 415.00 jobber price at O'Reilly's,,,Eddie  sorry for no part# or pic,,I am sitting in a recliner with an aircast on my left knee :icon16:
