TORSION BAR SWIVEL and bolt
« on: November 10, 2011 - 01:23:16 PM »
well I have a new problem, (I am going to have rename the car the ex-wife) I took the car into a alignment shop to adjust the height and align the front end, when they went to adjust the front end the swivel for the drivers side was rusted solid and stripped the swivel bolt and I guess you can call the swivel, well they quoted me a price of 120.00 to replace them, I found on line another set for 80.00 http://www.bmcuda.com/proddetail.asp?prod=2275469, are these thing really that expensive? if anybody knows where to get any others for cheaper would be greatly appreciative, I didn't think these things were that expensive and hard to find,

PS also if anybody has any ideas how to change these out would help as well

Thanks guys

one of the suspension companies offers them as well , it may have been PST , or in my case I would got to the wreckers & remove a set & pay $5 for them but we did not get rust out west .
Removal will be interesting , you will have to cut the bolt off between the nut & lever to release the pressure on the them & the t bar , I would recommend a torch , just slice through the bolt above the nut then the nut can be removed from the control arm . you might be able to hacksaw through most of it but the pressure will pinch the blade near the end of the cut .

Put a want add on a few sites.  A good used set shouldn't be too hard to find.  They are a fine thread and can be hard to turn when they get a little rusted.  To replace them, you'll need to support the front of the car(on stands) and let the suspention hang.  Then it's just a matter of unscrewing the old ones and installing the new ones.(easier said then done)   You may have to take the upper ball joint loose from the spindle in order for the LCA to drop enough to get all the tension off the adjusters.
