Adding the A01 light package
« on: November 02, 2011 - 11:50:01 AM »
I've got the glove box light covered, but does anyone have pics or good descriptions of how the key and ash tray lights attach?

I'm assuming that the ash tray light wires into the parking /dash lights circuit. What about the key light? Is this also always lit up when the parking lights are on?

If you know what your looking at you can see it in this picture.  The ashtray light snaps into the top of the housing.  The wires is orange and plugs into the orange rubber T.

The ingition light has a time delay.  There is a small round canister that gets taped to the main harness by the steering column.  That's the delay relay.  There is one yellow wire with a gray plug that plugs into the steering column.

You can see the connection in this pic.  The single yellow wire with the gray plug is on the left.  You follow that up to another connector.  That is where the small relay attaches.

Gotcha and gotcha.

Where does the actual bulb / socket for the key light go, though?

The column is on my list for this winter.

The light is right below the lock cylinder.  It's a round thing sticking out of the column.  Until I get into mine I have no idea what it looks like inside.

That's a fun project. Good amount of detail work, which you seem to enjoy. :-)

Huh. Sounds like the part of the column where the lock cylinder goes is different for light package-equipped cars.

There definitely isn't a hole or anything near the lock cylinder on my column.

If that's the case, I'll prob just give it a miss and just do the ash tray and glove box...

I'll try and remember to have a look at the steering column when I get home and maybe snap a pic.

Here's a closeup of the delay wiring and the relay.

Here's the steering column.  The light comes out of the column just to the left of the hazard switch.  It's the little round piece.

Interesting.

Looks like the hole for hazzard / key light is different than what I have on my column.

Edit: Actually, I looked and the hole is the same. Never noticed it extended out like that.

Thanks!

When did the factory change the style of the light?  Was that a 70 only design?

I can't say, mine was built in November of 1969.

Looks like it from your pics pic, Burdar, (here and in your resto thread) but double checking on where the light-purple glove box light plugs in...

Routes along the top and goes into the 3-way red bullet plug near the radio, no? ie, the glove box light should be 12v always-on, and not plugged into the parking light circuit.

Yes, the pink glove box light wire goesto the red rubber plug.  That's the only thing that was plugged into that connector.
