To Stroke or not to Stroke

Hello again all.
Im tossing up wether to go a stroker or not?
I can buy a 440 short block with forgies steel crank,etc etc. It just needs to be bored to suit pistons,for a good price. This is standard stroke.
Then do a port job on my eddy heads and so on.
Or i could use my existing 440 and buy a stroker kit and go that way.
Im just wondering if my 23 spline 4 speed will handle around the 6 to 650 hp im looking for???
Yes its a street car but i like to go fast down the 1/4 and i want it to scream tuffness and scariness  :droolingbounce:
Now if i have to buy a new box to be able to handle that sort of power,then i will be saving for a lot longer.....
Or i could buy this other motor do it up so it can handle my abuse lose some power maybe and still keep my g box....
Id like some sort of plan here so i can say yay or nay to this short block.
Am i just confusing the matter here????
What are peoples opinions?

Ronnie Sox did it with a good 'ol A-833 4-speed. I don't see why you couldn't. However, be aware, it has no OD for freeway cruising...Brutal in strength though.

I not sure what to say , a steel crank 440 is a good combo but to get 600 hp + the stroker is easier to make the extra power & about as affordable as reconditioning the factory parts so it makes sense to me to go bigger

I should of asked if the box could handle 600 +hp.......

I prefer to run the 512 kit with 7.1" long rods over the 6.76 500" but if it is close to you that will work
 the 833 will not be the weak link

while it is true that there is no replacement for displacement, it is also true, that you can never exceed the heads, no matter how big the engine underneath.
well ported edelbrocks are good to about 500 cubic inch, thats about it, and tough to 6k rpm on a 500, even when ported.

Ok so I'm thinking bout the 512 as chryco suggested.
Next thought is with the $ I spend on doing up my eddys could I buy a pair of bigger flowing heads for around the same price??
I don't know a lot about what heads are good or not?

to me the eddys are just an entry level head , the new Super Stealth looks interesting , Indy has a number of choices available , the EZ are more easily adapted to most builds
