    Inspired by many other photos Ive seen using warbirds as a backdrop, I realized I drive by a truly legendary bird every day. Working in Homestead, Florida, the home of the 482nd Fighting Falcons, this F4 Phantom ruled its realm just like the Cuda did in 1971. It was the most versatile and dominant fighter of its time, until the mid 70's when the F-14-15-16s starting coming out. Over 5,000 were produced. It was capable of Mach 2.2 and could carry up to 9 tons of ordinance! but not at the same time of course.

    My brother was crew chief on an RF4C reconnaissance Phantom in the 70's based in England and he had plenty of stories to tell about these stripped down planes, no armanent, no armor, just souped up engines to get them in & out of Russian airspace.  Nice photo!

    Years ago, we were up at the Waterloo-Wellington airport, in southern Ontario, for an air show and the USAF very kindly flew a Phantom up from N.Carolina someplace, did a nice, decently long performance with the beast showing it's sheer power and then apparently, flew the old gal home- all one one tank of JP4! That's 2 nice rides, that are, as they say in Newfoundland- "side by each". I'm green with envy.  :thumbsup:

    I always considered the F-4 a Mopar.  It’s not aerodynamic, so, the AF shoved a big-ass engine into it.  Just like a big block Charger.
