front brake line routing question
« on: December 14, 2011 - 09:01:02 AM »
I can`t remember where the front brake lines go...  :clueless:   do they run underneath the front frame rails and back up from there?   anyone got pics of that area?

I think there were a couple different designs.  I'm not sure what years had what style.  Here is a picture of a 70 Hemi Cuda that shows the lines going under the frame.

The 1970 book shows 2 options 1 through above and 1 under the frame rail.

If it goes through the inner fender, it will go through the rubber flap that is held on with the spring clips.  There is a hole/slot in the rubber for the line.

Hi Bart-
I’m assuming that you’re building your own brake lines, based upon an early post.
FWIW; my 318 car has the brake lines going through the rubber flap / over the frame rail.  I don’t know why Plymouth ran two different directions with the brake lines.

Eventually you’re going to run the brake lines to the rear.  This link has a lot of pictures that may help you; it did me.  It’s those little things that I can’t remember and seeing the pictures made it all clear again.

Don’t forget to post your pics covering the progress.
Take care,
Ron

It may be a drum / disk thing. My Gran Coupe had the through the firewall routing from the factory when I had the drum brakes. I switched to front disk and got the under the rail brakelines.

hey Ron,
did yours have disc or drums up front?  I`m trying to figure out what would have been the reason for a different route...  :clueless:  doesn`t make any sense to me  :dunno:
thanks for that link too... I should have taken a ton more pics when I took the car apart... oh well... lesson learned  :misbehaving:  Do you know if the mounting point for the rear brake hose was bolted on?  I saw some that were welded to the body, but mine is missing that bracket... I think there was no bracket when I took it apart  :dunno:

edit:   I just saw a pic of the bracket bolted to the floor...  :2thumbs:
