Help me pick a cam for my 440
« on: December 11, 2011 - 05:03:56 PM »
Need help picking a cam. 440 10to1 comp. Holley Street Dominator Intake, Headers, stock 516 heads, 4.11 gears, TCI Saturday Night Special converter 1800 to 2000 stall. I know this engine could use a good set of heads, they are in my future plans.  I want to hear a little cam in the idle, but not too radical. I am not good with cam specs the numbers make my head spin.
Thanks

Lunati VooDoo 60303 should suit your needs assuming the converter will go to 2200
the 60302 would work better if the converter is 1800 stall , given the 4.11 gear the 60303 would be my choice . this is assuming you want to stay with hyd cam .
Installing hard seats & 1.81 exhaust valves will make a big difference using the heads you have with some port work

bit faster than stock...mine is pretty smooth and very drivable.  But, having the converter that Chryco suggested (and Lunati as well) probably the reason it works so well.  The actual specs of the cam are not wild for a 440 sized engine and this cam seems to be one of the most popular upgrade cams for  a street car as a result.

Is there a video of the Lunati 60303 idling in a 440 anywhere?  Haven't been able to find one.

I have a Lunati 60304 that I just pulled from my 512 Cuda with 700 miles on it.  It idled great and had plenty of vacuum for my power brakes.  Mine is a 4 speed but it had plenty of power on the bottom end.  I'd take $75 for it if you are interested.  I'm going to a bigger solid flat tappet cam in mine.
