Was there a "headlights on" buzzer on 73s?
« on: December 19, 2011 - 10:21:16 AM »
I came across a "headlight on buzzer" relay listed for e bodies... is my 73 Challenger supposed to have one of these?

If so, where does it go?

Thanks!

The relay would plug into the fuse box. The actual buzzer is next to the glovebox on the door side

Err... isn't the horn relay / key-in-ignition buzzer what's plugged into the fuse box?

I'm not aware of a headlight on buzzer. The print I have for the 73's says one fuse box location is for the 'key in/horn' buzzer/relay the other is for the window lift relay.

That's what I have, too... but Jamiez is right about there being a relay / buzzer thingy attached to the dash frame next to the glovebox liner...

I don't see it in any of the schematics I have, but it's definitely there on my car. I guess I'll just have to start tracing back wires to see what it's for. :-)

I think you are referring to the seat belt buzzer. I have a (disabled) seatbelt relay and buzzer by the glovebox.  :2cents:

Guess I didn't read closely enough. I'm not aware of a lights on buzzer, but maybe the optional lights package had that? I believe ther is only the one buzzer, even if it is triggered by multiple inputs. In my 74 the same buzzer is used for the seatbelts and the key in/door open.
I'm only aware of the fuse box relay that is shared with the horn

On my 70 and 71s I just added a diode pigtail across one of the open, left over connectors in the main harness. The key in buzzer then works as a headlights on buzzer too, when the door is open.  I think the wiring diagrams show where to plug it in.  It was an option that came on e-bodies. One of my pigtails had a part number on it too.

Before I put this in, I used to leave my parking light on all the time.  I like to drive with my parking lights on.

was wondering if you could post a pic of the diode pigtail.
It would be really helpful.

That thing is hard to see, now that my dashes are in.  It is just 2 female spade connectors with a diode between the 2 connectors, taped up with a part number on it.  Do a search on our board for headlight buzzer.  A part number comes up from a post from FY1 RT SE.  Then google that part number to see if anyone decribes it. I though it shows up in the wiring diagram. This also came up "L72 - headlight on Buzzer"
