1970 steering column issue
« on: January 12, 2012 - 08:29:49 AM »
Hello,

I restored a 1970 steering column for my challenger and have noticed that the part of the column closest to the dash moves when I turn the wheel. Sometimes I can't insert the key unless I move it a little. I'm not sure why it's doing this. THis is the 1970 culum without the key release. I know there is a 4 speed lock out that you can buy, but they wouldn't have used that on an automatic car so I am guessing I am missing something in the column. Any help is appreciated.

70 only. automatics had the linkage to the trans to.   Kinda easy to find. the 4 spd stuff was harder to find, everyone threw it away when they got headers

Isn't that the part of the column that is supposed to move when you use the column shift?
