I like painting!

I like painting. I sprayed my first item with a sprayer and boy oh boy was it cool. Last night at 2:00, awoken by coyotes howling I got up, couldn't sleep and decided to head out to my shop. I pulled an old trunk lid down and was like f-it I'm about to make a mess.

And it was a mess!

But then today I sanded it and prepped it better and dialed the gun in, and it looks better. Boy last night though.. had possibly the worst plum crazy rusty trunk lid on Earth! Lines, runs, stripes, bubbles... lol

But i'm learning, and buying paint to practice with.

Spray it on with overlapping passes,  then WAIT   until it gets tacky, before spraying the next coat.    Touch a painted area with your fingertip very lightly,  preferably a place that was masked off.    If your finger gets paint on it, it is too wet,   WAIT  let it dry some.    If your finger leaves a fingerprint but does not get color on it,  it is ready for the next coat.    Spray 1st coat horizontally,  2nd vertically,  and 3rd   horizontally..

Practice and take your time between coats..     If you let the 1st coat get tacky  (Sticky)  the next coat will stick to it and not run.

It's goin' okay, but my hair is purple now..

Sounds like an old Warren Zevon song- "I met a werewolf at Trader Vic's and his hair was purple" LOL! Seriously though, DON'T  get that stuff all over you; it's chemically nasty and carcinogenic. Wear painters coveralls and a rated respirator- ALL the time when painting. We'd like you to be around for a long time yet and so does your family. Buy the night vision scope for the .22-250 and those coyotes won't bother you so much.

First time I painted was when my bro and I painted the engine compartment w/o proper respiration STOOOOOOPID!!! I was blowing Limegreen into a tissue. And hocking up limegreen loogies. I learned My lesson and took precausions the next time with a rated respirator. Two bad it took him 2 lessons and he wore POR-15 on his skin for a few days.

Mamma always said don't eat the paint chips.  That goes double for breathing the overspray.

You need to inhale the fumes at least once. It kills just enough brain cells that you'll want to paint again, but with a respirator.

   When I did my car, I did all the prep work---and painted the trunk, engine bay, jambs, myself. Chickened out and had a profesional shoot the outside. I am not a little guy, and you should of seen me trying to stuff myself into the trunk and paint up inside the upper wheel wells and under the dutchman panel ect.       Did this mostly because of budget--- and for the learning experience also. A whole lot more labor intensive than I thought, but I kinda liked it also.  So now I am striping down my dads 68 mustang that has been sitting in his back yard for 20 years and will do the complete paint job. Will see how I feel about painting after this project is done.        It's pretty cool to sit back and say  Yea, I did that myself.  Like a bumper sticker I saw on a car last year        Built---not bought.
