Found these in a 8 3/4 housing.... clues anyone?
« on: January 09, 2012 - 06:34:40 PM »
Pulled the chunk out of a friends 67 GTX today and found these 2 little pieces laying in the bottom of the housing.  :dunno: Has a 741 chunk with 3.91 suregrip. This car has been sitting for over 20 years so we are just going through checking things out before we put the engine and trans back in. The one has a roll pin sticking out. Thanks for your help.

With the clutch type sure grip they used those buttons in the center pin to allow the end play adjustment , the roll pin is supposed to hold them together long enough to install the axles

Thanks Chryco! I've only had a 489 apart and was at a loss to where these things came from. Any tips to make sure they stay in place during reassembly?

Try spreading the roll pin so it is tight or use Grease , you can see then looking down the tube with a strong light to be sure they stayed in place

I had to remove my axles to have the wheel studs repaired, and found the same thing. Chryco, did these come on the 1970 and newer differentials or only on the older ones? I know that the rear in my '73 Cuda was donored before I got it, but haven't got a clue from what year or what type of vehicle.
