Rear floor pan extension to crossmember
« on: January 02, 2012 - 12:18:48 AM »
Does anyone have a picture of the installation of this piece. It seems to me that it is too long. When I install the floor pan extension the crossmember extension does not fit.

Options? Do I cut to fit?

overlaps from the back side and this is where the adjustment comes in for the drop off.

Thanks.  I would expect I should install after the rear quarters and tail light panel is installed. Then it would be a perfect fit.

You actually want to install it along with the trunk extension.  That piece gets spot welled to the rear cross member and the flange gets a couple of spot welds on the trunk extension.  If you install the quarter and trunk extension, you will be trying to plug weld up between the extension and the frame rail  Its possible, but just tight.

in the above pic you'll see the top flange out, the bottom in. this is the original to the car and wasnt changed.
in the rusty pic you can make out the end of the crossmember bends inward,

My picture may have been poor. I have the top flange out. The pictures you have supplied have helped me.

I'm just at the stage where I'm putting my extension in and it seems that they were a "slide it over until it fits" part. The upper flange goes over the rear crossmember and under the trunk floor and the lower one goes on top of the crossmember flange. I'm not going to weld mine to the crossmember until I have both 1/4's fitted with the rear valance in place to mark their final set, because the extension controls how much the trunk extensions can move, which affects the 1/4 to valance fitting. The knee bone IS connected to the shinbone!  :2cents:

I agree.....

I am just ready to slide them into the "fit" spot.  I have installed my lower valence and set the gaps. I am happy with the fit and will now install the extensions.
I think I will glue the outside of the extensions to the inner quarter. It will be tough but not impossible to weld.
