Anyone use these 3 point retractable seatlbets?
« on: February 04, 2012 - 12:38:57 AM »
Saw these on ebay. He mainly sells GM stuff so I assume they are GM buckles like lots of others but the extra bracket to mount the other end of the belt without having to add a mounting point might be worth the extra money for those of us who do not have the equipment to make them.

Once you add in the hardware and consider the time and fact of drilling and welding to add another mount for the front end of the loop belt, at $140 each it it may be worth the $25 more each compared to seatbeltpros.com or wesco.com. Anyone who has used either style please chime in. I am tired of the 2 piece non retractable ones I have now. I am not concerned with looking stock so I am not completely opposed to adding the extra mount if it is a better setup. The brackets on the ebay ones could easily be weak.

Umm, the price I see listed is $279 for the pair.  :22yikes:

I paid $70 each for my XV 3 point belts, and they just bolted in using the existing mounts (including the shoulder belt drop, it just bolts into the old shoulder belt anchor), no additional hardware needed. Looks like XV is currently out of stock on their 3 point belts for buckets, but I'm sure they could tell you when they'd be back in stock.

I mean, if XV costs half as much, something is seriously wrong. And it looks to me like those mounts are not just a bolt in situation, the bracket for the shoulder drop doesn't appear like it would bolt in.

And, on a side note, it doesn't sound to me like your seat belts are stock anyway. My '72 came with retractable lap belts, with that goofy non-retractable shoulder belt that hooked onto a stud on the lap belt. Pretty sure that was factory, both of my '71 Darts are set up the same way.

I have the XV seat belts as well, they were a simple bolt in.

Yes the price is 279, but I did not realize the other universal ones mounted the shoulder belt drops in the same hole as the ratchet. I swear one of the instructions showed mounting a second anchor plate forward of the existing one for the drop. That is why I was wondering if the ebay ones were worth the extra money. Seems strange that XV has them listed for less than wesco and seatbeltpros considering everything else of theirs but since they are not in stock and I don't want to get the run around too many others have had I will go with the seatbeltpros.com modern style with the cable buckle ends. Mine are the factory 2 piece style like you describe, I meant non retractable shoulder belt section.

Yeah I wouldn't think they're worth it at $279. I've seen other vendors list them for prices more inline with what XV is at, there are a few other threads on here that list some vendors. If you've already got the shoulder belt anchor in the car, you shouldn't need to add any attachment points. Even generic 3 point belts should work, the only part that's different from every other 3 point system out there is the drop from the roof anchor, and even those can be purchased separately elsewhere.
