little help designing audio system
« on: February 21, 2012 - 06:19:12 PM »
Since most head units are 2" by 7" and a conversion for my original am is about $400, I was considering skipping the head unit all tobether and plugging into an amp with my ipod..with that I should be able to pickup fm/am through the ipod itself..I think this would be great if I could incorporate a way to be able to charge the ipod at the same time...my biggest goal in all this is to keep ig hidden, that why a standard head unit is less than ideal..soanother thing I will be looking at is low profile subs...any recomendation on an amp/hookup? I am looking for a good set up, i'm not looking to keep up with the ricers but I do like a good thump

My car is a radio delete car so I have the block off plate , I mounted a mini amp for the Ipod to plug into & ran the wiring from that to 6x9 speakers in the rear deck & 2 smaller speakers under the grille in the dash . Of course my I pod last 3 months & died so I am not in a hurry to spend another $200 for nothing .
No recommendation on an amp , I just got a small amp off Ebay

I did what Chryco did... and what you're contemplating.

No head unit. Just an amp that I plug my iphone into and a nice pair of 6x9s in stick location. Looks completely stock and sounds very decent.

In the future I plan to add another small amp to power a pair of 3.5s in the stock dash location.
