trans dipstick
« on: February 21, 2012 - 01:14:32 PM »
The cup part of the dipstick handle doesn't sit down flush on the tube.  There is a metal tab above the rubber seal inside the cup.  That tab is preventing the handle from sitting down on the tube squarely.  How should that tab be possitioned?  Is it supposed to be bent down onto the seal?  Right now the tab is bent outward and touching the side of the cup.  Is this right?  I can take a picture if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Isn't the tab supposed to rub on the inside of the tube to keep it tight?
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Here are two pics.  You can see that the cup section doesn't sit flush on the tube.  The second pic shows the possition of the small tab inside the cup.  The tap is preventing one side of the cup from going down onto the dipstick tube.  Is this right or is that tab bent?

How about a pic of the stick out of the tube?

This metal piece (blurry) should not be there.

OK, it must have been bent down against the rubber seal originally. "72 Cudamman" was probably right.  I'll bend it down and it should fit.  It must have gotten caught at one time when the stick was being put back on.  It's been like that as long as I can remember.  Thanks

I have to use the stock one since I'm doing a stock restoration.  Now that the extra piece of metal has been removed, it works much nicer.
