Tubular Upper CA...kind of? Anyone know anything about these?
« on: February 28, 2012 - 10:14:46 PM »
http://www.amazon.com/SPC-Alignment-Adjustable-1970-1974-Challenger/dp/B005BHQ7J0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1330484945&sr=8-6

I may be on the slow boat here, but i have never seen these before. Does anyone here know anything about these? My first take is that the metal at the body side pivot area looks somewhat thin. Let me know wat you guys know/think.

I've seen them on circle track cars. You can buy all the pieces separately. I'm not sure how they would stand up on the street? Maybe HP2 will chime in?

certainly looks like you have a lot of adjustment ability compared to what it came from the manufacturer.  I've never even seen those advertised before.  Interested in know its durability too.  Of course some of the original parts aren't as strong or light as what we can get today.  Definately a story to this I'm interested in.   :burnout:

SPC has been around for quite a while making parts for Cobra kit cars and such. They released the mopar version of this arm in 2009, however, very few mopar guys have ever heard of them. I've seen similar designs used on competition vehicles for decades. Can't say I have any first hand experience on a street application.

HP, my thought is that if they have any advantage it's adjustability. Would you agree?

My first take is that the metal at the body side pivot area looks somewhat thin. Let me know wat you guys know/think.

Since the upper control arm is only in tension/compression, the thickness of the sheetmetal is plenty.  About the only way you would break something like that, is going sideways into a curb (and at that point you have a lot more to worry about).
