To Rallye Dash or Not - 1972 Cuda - Questions on parts.

My  is that you want to see what sort of look you want.  I have the Rallye gauges in my car and there have been times when I wish I had the exact set up you have (standard gauge panel with aftermarket gauges) for a racier look.  The factory look is unique and nice and all but it looks a lot more plain.

As far as the tach inacuracy, if you go with the Rallye gauges, are you still going to keep the aftermarket tach?  Sorta like wearing sneakers with a suit.  I know lots of cars are set up like this but if you are going with the factory look, then I would pass on the aftermarket tach.  Just my opinion...

As far as the correct style, when was your car built?  Early cars sometime got the 70-71 Rallye dash gauges.  My 1972 Challenger Rallye SBD was 8/17/1971 and I have the 70-71 style gauges from the factory so depending on your SBD, the 70-71 gauges COULD have been in your car. 

I assume you car came with the standard gauges to begin with so originality to the car may not be too big a deal.  If you don't want people going to your car and saying, "Hey, you got the wrong year Rallye gauges in your car.", then go for the 72-74 style gauges.  Might be cheaper than the 70-71 gauges too.

I am going to skip this purchase. I feel like sh*t telling the seller this now.
I will drive the car the way it is once the snow melts and take it from there.
I thought I was jumping on a deal, but after your comments, I'll save my cash for other stuff and get the proper good rallye and parts when I'm sure.
I got buyers fever!
I need to concentrate on stuff I do need like black matts with the pink 'CUDA on it and the gas tank rubber oval truck thing.
This is a good group and am happy to be part of it now, just wish I had my 70 cuda back from when I was a kid.
Here is a pic of the car the other day when I got it to my house on a trailer from the Train.
One day I will actually drive it......lol and also post an introduction about me and this Barracuda.
i hope to get rid of the big ugly tach and maybe put a small one in the cluster where the trans temp is now.

Travor  get the Gran Coupe wood grain panel like GranCuda Get a wood grain steering wheel,
that should set the interior off.
I believe Grancuda has a rimblow, he can probably direct u to aquiring the woodgrain panel.
Keep checking ebay for a wheel.

I really like the way that wood grain looks on the standard gauges.

Nice lookin' car!  Looks kinda like April's pink '72 (unless you bought it from her???).

I'm not a fan of aftermarket gauges in our cars unless it's a full-out race car.

If you ARE going to go Rallye, just be patient and find a good used '72-'74 style.  They run about $200-400 cheaper than the '70-71 style anyways.  Get a quartz movement for the clock, and get the tach updated with modern electronics to be accurate.

Good luck and even though your car isn't quite correct for your year car, who cares?  Looks great!
