That's good to hear you're going to take it one step at a time & fix the most prominent issues first then go from there.   If it makes you feel any better my fun car until the Challenger is completed (haha, haven't touched it since I finished high school ) has been off the road now for two years due to it needing some much needed attention &, more importantly, the transmission overhauled/rebuilt...Just imagine how bummed I am right now when it originally was taken off the road due to a clutch malfunction (one of the springs on the sprung disc lost part of its retainer).   Money & lack of time can certainly take their toll on you, but at the end of the day you do have an awesome car that's certainly worth finishing it up so you can enjoy it in the near future.

Sitting around looking at a Mopar that you can't drive is better than cruising around in any Nova or Mustang. Sounds like your car needs simple fixes that wouldn't take much to get done..I'd just hold on to it until you can get it going. I'd keep it...certainly wouldn't sell it to get a Nova..you could have a paper route for a week and get a Nova. Good luck man.
