Looking for a pic of a challenger
« on: May 23, 2012 - 11:41:11 AM »
O.K. This is a real long shot, but you never know. I looked at a project car about 20 years ago in the St. Louis area. IT was a 1970 challenger R/T with a sunroof. It had a mid 70's brown custom paint job with a T/A spoiler that was cut like a pontiac trans am spoiler where the corners were mounted on the quarter panels. The drivers door was blue with the strobe strip. Guessing it was from a 72-4 challenger. IT had some aftermarket wheels on it. Here is the best part. Someone ran conduit pipe through the rocker panels that dumped out of the rear wheel well in front of the back tires. then it came up through the kick panel area on the driver and passenger side. I would love to see a pick of the car when it was in this condition. I know it is a long shot, but there is enough detail that maybe someone knows what happened to the car.

Thanks,

Member Tactransman is close to St Louis. Might be worthwhile to PM him directly.

What was the conduit for?

Very interested to see how the spoiler was mounted.

i'm guessing the conduit was to be able to pour water in front of the rear tires, from inside the car, to do burnouts. there were funnels on each side of the where the kick panels were located.

as far as the spoiler goes, it was a t/a spoiler that was cut between the trunk and quarter panel lines. then it was blended in with filler or fiberglass.  they did a good job.

Ah, water!  of course.

I was trying to figure out what kind of flammable liquid to use.  Adding on an igniter at the rear tires of course.

I bet that spoiler looked real good. I am a big fan of the firebird's spoilers.
Actually, I have two 70's with spoilers.

I hope someone can bring up a picture of the car.

it was a total 70's custom.  they did a goodjob blending the spoiler into the back of the car. i might have an old auto trader laying around with a black and white picture of it. MY dad and I would always by auto traders look at mopars back in the day. that was back before mopars were a business. i miss those days.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I remember that somone started sanding on the roof and then it rusted.  that along with the blue door and the big mag wheels made the car fairly ruff looking.  The guy had a phone call when we were looking at it and had to go inside.  My dad said "did he not just drag this son of a b##ch from out of the bottom of the mississippi."  :roflsmiley:
