My Granpa had Crohn's That is what got him medically discharged from Bootcamp during WWII.  He did live to be 72 with it although he had to live with a Bag for the majortiy of his senor years. Friend and co-worker of mine past away from it!.. she went into the doctors and they did a procedure on her 8 hrs later she died from sepsis poisoning. He was crushed having the kids and all that shock at once she was in her early 30's.

Thanks to all of you.  It is sort of a good news/bad news situation.

The original fear of colon cancer has been changed to a diagnosis of Crohn's Disease.

Even though that is better news, she is very depressed.
She now faces 50 or 60 years of this misery and sees her ambitions of becoming the senior engineer in her company flying out the window.
The drugs she will be taking cost more than $30,000 a year, but for now her company plan and our government medical will cover all of it.
Eventually she will be paying 4 or 5 thousand herself.
They have two very young children who she now fears for as well.  Colon cancer runs in her family and is a concern.
She just feels so sorry for her husband and fears for the pressures it will put on their relationship.

She is just starting out and it seems so unfair.  I wish I could trade with her.

Remicade is 30K a year? In what country? Have several friends with Crohns, its an annoyance, not a death sentance.
She's eaten her last salad though. In this country Crohns is treated mainly with diet, Remicade or other anti-inflammatory
for the occasional flare ups, and Kaopectate if something gives her the screaming poops. Do you/she realize how flippin'
LUCKY she is to get this for a diagnosis and not something more serious? Diet change vs chemo/radiation/surgery? I'll take
the diet change. Congrats on an outstanding outcome versus what could have been.

One of my very best friends has Crohn's, diagnosed when he was just a kid. When I first met him he would usually do pretty well, but every now and then he'd have a bad spell and be in the hospital. The second year I knew him he had a total colostomy.

He not only does well, but he has gone back to the career that he loves (teaching), and gone from being a professor to the Dean of Arts and Sciences at a community college. He and his wife are building a house, and he's never been happier in his life. The three of us spent a week a Disney World a few years ago, and when I go to Disney I'm there when the gates open and the push me out with a broom at the end of the day. He kept up with me.

It is possible to live a great life with Crohn's. Please pass this on to her.

Yeah, $30K. (Canada) Amazing.
The cost includes the infusion every few weeks.  I have seen prices all over the place on various Crohn's sites!

She has been working with a naturopath on diet and supplements for a year, but has not improved.  She is resigned to doing the drug thing now  Hopefully she will change her mind in a while, these drugs have some pretty serious aspects.

I'm sure things will look up for her.  It is a tough time right now, it is easy to focus on the gloom and doom.
We are blessed that it wasn't something worse.

Well, thank you all for your support and words of encouragement.  This is what makes this site so special.
