oil pickup won't clear pan!!!
« on: May 13, 2012 - 04:12:34 PM »
I just removed the old aftermarket moroso oil pan from my 440 an intended to install the mancini street hemi oil pan. I installed their 3/8 pickup and went to test the pan on for fit and it doesn't sit on the block at all. The pickup hits the bottom of the pan and there's still about 1/4 inch between the block and the pan. What the...!!!
The only thing I can see is that there's about a half inch of thread still showing on the pickup tube.
Is it supposed to screw into the block so no more thread is visible????
I don't know how I could screw it on tighter anyways.... :hyper:

Are you sure the threads in the block were clean and clear all the way in? Maybe run a tap into them as a chaser?

Most(if not all) aftermarket pans need a matching pickup. If the old pan was deeper than the new one, then you will need a new pick-up.

I guess the other option would be to bend the pick-up you have to make it fit.

It is a new pickup. It's the one that comes with the Mancini package oil pan + pickup.

Street hemi, 6pk pans came with 2 oil pan gaskets and a windage tray. Thus making the pan a little deeper. Also, sometimes you have to tweak, bend, and adjust the pick up tube for propper fitting issues.  This is a very common thing. Remember after filling the oil pan, to check the level on the dipstick and see the level line on stick. You may have to scribe your own line when deverting away from an original matched set up.
