73 challenger B5 blue Vinly top or not?
« on: April 02, 2012 - 12:26:37 PM »
I have a 73 challenger B5 blue. it is originally a rally car with a vinyl top. Should I reinstall the vinyl top or leave it off. Also it is a blue interior car. should I leave the interior color or change it to black. Will this hurt the value making these changes or not. What are your thoughts. Vinyl top or not. interior color change or not?
Thanks

What are you planning to do with the car?

If you are trying to go bone stock as it shipped from the factory, then you should put it all back.

If you are already making a "resto mod" then originality is pretty much a non-factor and you should do what you like...how well you do it is more important than what you do.

I recommend not doing anything that can't be undone if you are concerned about resale value.  An interior swap can be done in a day if you know what you are doing and have all the pieces.  Going to or from a vinyl top requires some metal working so that's harder to reverse.

Mine is B5 and originally came with white vinyl top, with black strobe stripes. I knew I wanted to switch over the stripes to white, and I tried to get a new vinyl top for it, and in fact got two different ones through Year One. But they wouldn't fit right, so I decided to go vinyl topless, glad I did. I think they look better without the vinyl top. But just my opinion.

We need more info as for what you want to do with the car. Keep it or sell it?

As much as I don't like vinyl tops, if the car is blue, with blue, you need something to break it up.

VINYL top yes! Blue interior YES! If you change anything, put a white interior in. Just my crappy opinion.

Interior-my opinion is keep it blue as I really like colored interiors and think black = boring. On the vinyl top if you are going more original I would say yes but I prefer them without it. The Rallye stripes in either black or white would look good and break it enough so there isn`t too much blue.  :2cents:

My 2 cents - My car is B5 with Blue interior (Brite blue with Dark blue inserts).  My car was exactly as mentioned above - blue - white vinyl top - blue interior and black strobe stripes.
Personally, I think a slick painted roof is far superior to the crap body work that was covered by the vinyl from the factory.  If you are going to spend the money to straighten it out just to cover just didn't make sense to me.

It looks really nice without the vinyl top.Remember the orginal chrysler designers disliked the vinyl tops because it changed the downward continueus flow to the quarter panels. The white interior gives it the nice candy look.I would leave it the way it is. :smokin: :dogpile:

My 73 was the same way with the vinyl top and B5 blue interior. I took the top off and put on white strobe stripes with white interior. I can't wait to get it back together.

its always a personal preference.
Can't stand the black interiors any car.
What shape is the interior now does it need recovered..?
If it were mine B5 exterior B5 interior.
Vinyl top pain in arz to maintain.......plus cost to replace.
One of the reasons I purchased my Gran Cpe with matching exterior and interior.
