How big of a trailer to haul a 71 cuda?
« on: February 04, 2013 - 05:06:05 PM »
Like it says in the title how big of a enclosed trailer do you need to cuda? What's the over all length of a cuda? Would a 20' or a 24 be better? Thanks

A little under 16 feet long.  Leave enough room up front to get under the car to hook the chains or straps to.  Either size should work.

My car trailer is an 18 footer.  I will be getting a 28ft enclosed soon.   the 18ft has a 10,000 lb wench installed on it. It comes in handy

Something else to keep in mind is this
Once the car is put in the trailer, you will probably have to climb out of the car as their isn't enough room to open the doors, unless you buy a trailer with a side door in the area that the car door is when parked.

I have a 20 foot enclosed trailer that I haul mine in.  It fits nicely but as been said to get out of it I need to have the window down and shoes off unless I winch it up.

I think the real question is how big a truck , make sure you have a proper hitch , preferably equalizing & with proper trailer brakes & controller , keep it safe  :2thumbs:

I have used 24 and 26 footers. I would recommend going as big as your tow vehicle can handle and you can still afford. Don't forget the parking requirements and storage when not in use. It comes in very hand having the extra room in the nose to have some tools storage for emergencies and a place for extra parts as well as your luggage when traveling. The 26ft that I use now has a V nose and does tow noticeably better especially in the wind.

I had the same question 20 years ago, I got, and still have a 22ft.  Has workbench/ tool box up front.

Trailer size isn't a issue to tow. Got a 1 ton megacab dodge to tow with. I'm just going to be renting one not buying one. I found one local that's a 20' and should work for what I need. Thanks for the info guys

Well I picked up the car hauler and I see that there is only two tie offs one on each end, oppisite corners? The owner said he hauled his barracuda like this. Will this work? I was still going to use two strapes per end.

On a recent move I tied both sides front and back. The owner of the borrowed trailer also let me lag a 4x4 to the (2x) floor in the front and also behind the rear tires. Only had to add a click to one strap after 100 miles.

As a suggestion check the trailer tires condition for age and inflation. The day after the Challenger was unloaded I went out to move the trailer and one of the tires went flat due to an age related tear in the tread carcass.  Got lucky on that one.  :worshippy
