    Heater core replacement and ducts

    I've taken the dash completely out to change the wiring. So while I'm at it, I'm looking at changing the heater core.
    First picture shows where I'm at. Now how to I get to the core or radiator to see if it needs changing??? Seems like this plastic box is just one big piece...
    Also, second pic shows a completely deteriorating foam (see in blue box). As soon as I touch it , it crumbles to dust!
    Does this foam have any use? How do I replace it. Same goes for the foam around the duct (square shaped). It's misshapen right now and wondered if I should change that as well.

    Now is the time to do a complete heater box restoration.  The A/C boxes are more complicated then the NON A/C units but it shouldn't be difficult.  DMT (Detroit Muscle Technologies) sells complete gasket kits to rebuild the box.  Roseville(a sponcor of this site) sells DMT gasket sets.

    I don't have the money for a complete rebuilt.
    I already dished out close to 1000$ for the dash harness, clutch, oil pan and others.
    I just thought I could change the radiator (100$) if it was 40 years old.

    The gasket kit is not that expensive and you can get a new heater core from O'Riley for around $50.  You have to disassemble the heater box to change the heater core anyway, might as well replace the foam/gaskets while you have it apart.

    A complete heater box gasket kit is only $65.  Add a few dollars for some spray adhesive and that's all it takes.

    By looking at the picture can someone tell me if it's a AC heater box or non AC.
    I know the car is originally AC but that it is no longer as it was cloned into a 440-6.
    I want to buy the correct kit.

    That's an A/C box.  The NON A/C boxes look totally different.  They don't have all those vacuum lines and canisters on them.

    Check with Mopar Dave - Roseville. He had a line on the real brass and copper versions. The heater cores made by Transpro are just junk. Here are some pictures I posted on a different thread. It's for a non A/C E body, but you will get the idea.

    My AC is non functional. Since it was cloned into a 440-6 cuda, I've been told there were no AC on those cars. And anyways, I don't really need it.
    However, I'm stuck with an AC unit to restore... which seems more complicated.
    It doesn't leak or anything so I think I'll leave it be. I'd like to be able to drive it soon as summers here in Quebec are short, and getting into this new project looks like time consuming. I already got the tran to put back in, oil pan to change, wire harness to change and dash to reinstall...
    Decisions, decisions....
