I was talking to a group of friends at a car show the other evening and the subject of internet car forums came up. There were a few newer Challenger owners there, so I mentioned our home here. They were asking if the newer Challengers were welcomed here. That is when I told them my story.
I had been out of the Mopar scene for a long time when I purchased the Beast for a retirement gift to myself. That was nearly 7 years ago. Having the car got me fired up and wanting to find forums that had folks with similar interests. I googled Plymouth Barracuda and the rest is history. I found this site and immediately was welcomed and made to feel right at home - even though I didn't own an "E" body. I still had a Barracuda and myself and the Beast had found our home.
I always meant to tell this little story that happened at Carlisle in '06 when several of us from the south caravanned up there. Chryco rode with me. Rev and Red were leading the way up there.
When we arrived, Dave, (4Cruisin) had arranged a tent for our club and we all parked near the tent. I had the only "A" body barracuda among our group. All the cars surrounding my car were "E" bodies. Well, that is where the story begins.
On Saturday about mid morning, some Carlisle "officials" came by and did not like my car sitting among the "E" bodies and wanted me to move it down to the "A" body section. I told them I wasn't going to do that because I had driven all the way from Georgia to spend the weekend with my friends. The officials went to discussed it with their boss who told them to make me move it. I was getting more than a little distressed. I didn't want to park the car 200 yards away while I stayed with my C-C buddies, and I didn't want to go away from my friends to babysit the car. What a mess!
That's when Dave and all the others, (April, Rev, Red, Chryco, MEK, Ross, etc...) you get the point, stepped up to the plate. The club had raised money to rent a big tent for our club, so in essence, we "owned" that little section of real estate under the "Cuda-Challenger" tent. Well these fine folks came up with a genius little plan to solve the issue. They cleared out chairs, grills, etc... and made room under half of the tent to park my car! What an unselfish group of folks. The officials strolled by several times with scowls on thier faces, but we owned that plot. Needless to say, the car stayed with the group as well as myself. They never made me feel ostracised because I had an lowly "A" body. In fact they went out of thier way to make sure the car and myself had a place among them.
I have meant to relay that story on here many times in the past, but for some reason or another, I never got around to it.
So, a belated thank you to everyone here for allowing me and my old car to hang out here. We love it....
