Is this a real AAR hood?
« on: April 23, 2012 - 11:56:19 PM »
hey folks! new guy to the boards here. i have a 1970 'cuda convertible dressed up as an AAR, (original 6 banger barracuda) and it has a bunch of proper AAR goodies, but i am unsure of the hood. it seems real, the car was done up this way some years ago, and according to the previous owner, it is real, as a real AAR gave up it's parts due to a tree falling on it. so, i would like some opinions, what do you folks think? i am in the middle of a light resto/engine upgrade at the moment.

thanks in advance!

  Hi there, Davey!  Don't know my self but would be curious to know my self.  Great looking car you have!

One thing is that a lot of the Challenger T/A and AAR hoods that are original have a little warpage over time.  Yours looks like it's in real good shape!
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

A lot if not all of Real AAR hoods had bulges in the center on the sides of the hood from the springs putting stress on the hood.

Also there is a ton of re-production hoods out there and they are very correct.

So the chances of this being real is very slim.

I could be wrong though  ::)

it looks good on the passenger side! lol, she has a real doozy of a bulge/bump on the driver side, along with repairs at the hood hinge brace point, like almost all originals i have seen. that was the main reason for thinking it might be real, but, who knows!

- :rebel:  If that is a real AAR hood it is in excellent shape minus that one lil crack that you got.  Most of the originals that I have seen are warped along the passenger side.  I have just purchased a aftermarket hood from VFN fiberglass and it fit perfect.   :feedback:  I am looking for a 1971-1974 cuda grille. - 334-239-5569
