Ok, Today I tried to test fit the 70's angle adapter everyone uses. Mopar part I think. I have not been able to figure out how to remove the plate on the block so that the adapter can be installed. Tried needle nose, but I didn't want to damage anything so when it didn't budge I stopped.
The second thing is at what angle was this adapter intended.
Third what is expected to service the filter.

Right now it looks like there is no way to install and remove the filter without loosening the whole thing and getting oil everywhere. Any help or links to pics would be great.! THANKS!

You are trying to remove the straight oil filter plate? Isn't where the oil filter threads the bolt retaining it? It's been awhile, but I may be misreading your question.

Once you have the filter off a 3/8 drive extension fits inside the threads & will remove the plate from the block . Then the angled adapter will bolt on , it is tough to get tight enough to seal .
 The adapter should be angled back maybe 20* down from level .

Why are you wanting to use the adapter?  The later years didn't use them.  Do the headers get in the way without it?

Yes I need to use the adapter because I have a TTI system on stock exhaust manifolds. The down pipe is so close to the filter that it melted and warped the last filter. I suspect that with that much heat it can not be good for the oil system. I'm Already having heating problems so I am doing everything I can to keep things cool.

If things are getting that hot, I would put a heatshield around the oil filter (or get some shiny metal and magnetically stick it to it).

Your right I am going to do that as well. The car has been down for a couple 3-4 months. Drove it to church and to lunch and it total overheated on me. I also noticed that the pump has a small leak. So I decided to take the time to fix everything I could without doing a full tare down. So I replaced the water pump, all the hoses, by-passed the A/C belts, and remembered that the oil filter was almost up against the down pipe. So I wanted to make sure everything that could run cooler was addressed. I have some of that heat shielding. I will be sure to put that on after the adapter is on. I'm telling you the filter is so close now to the pipe that without the adapter I don't think I could put the shielding on.

 :wave: I was wondering. When mounting the adapter to the block do I need to use any gasket sealant? Someone was saying it is hard to seal up.  :1zhelp:

There is a gasket set for it, but I would coat them lightly with some gasket maker anyway.
