I used an alternator from an AUDI 100....I assume ca 1990 model.
This is a wide but short alternator with built in volt regulator.
Had a job pulling off the serpentine pulley and replace it with V-belt style.
Some fiddling around making a custom bracket, but has worked since -93.

I ran a seperate rele providing 12V to the alternator....
This rele gets 12 V directly from battery via small fuse.

The rele exitation = trigger voltage via a this cord connected to the ingintion power.
....12 V ignition can be found on the white resistor on the bulkhead,...and since I only use this to TRIGGER the rele, no power (Amps) is drawn.

Mind you, this was back when I was a student,...so low cost was of the essence.
..also not many american cars at the dismatlers in Europe.....hence the Audi was selected...

Today I WOULD have gotten a MOPAR alternator,...one that would fit the existing brackets...

NB. Before you run off and install a massive 100 AMP alternator, be sure to run an extra cable from alternator output directly to battery..... Yes this will influence your amp meter,..but it will still show the direction of current flow....

Mancini has the Denso kit
I had a Furd alt built for one project , had to modify brackets & spacers & went to serpentine belt system but it put out well over 100 amps , we had 2 electric fuel pumps , electric water pump , 3 electric fans , EFI computer to run + all the usual accessories , no way the stock alt would keep up LOL
