Tail panel was not black originally, metallic silver on "73s , see burdar's photos http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=61201.msg712026#msg712026

Mine had overspray on the lower panel you reference. If using the bumper fillers it would not show anyway.

The book "Challenger and Barracude 1970-1974" by jim schild says for 73-74 rear tail, used medium Astrotone which changed to black organosol when the A57 ralley package was ordered. Mine has the A57, so do I paint it black or silver ?

In 1972 the Challenger came with two different paint treatments on the tail panel.  Standard Challengers (JH VIN) came with argent tail panels.  The recessed areas around each tail light were black organisol.  The Rallye Challengers in 72(JS VIN) came painted the mirror image.  The tail panels were black organisol.  The area around each tail light was painted argent.

1972 was the last year that the JS VIN was used.  In 73 and 74 ALL Challengers had a JH VIN and the Rallye was just a package(A57) ontop of the base Challenger.  In 73 and 74, ALL Challengers came with argent tail panels and organisol around the tail lights.

Thanks Burdar, your research and knowledge are second to none. I will now consider my options, a this stage am thinking the 72 ralley look will look good with the top banana.
