two piece trunk fitment lil help?
« on: February 24, 2012 - 06:01:15 PM »
Ive been looking at the post trying to find some help on fitting a two piece trunk panel in. Seems to tuck in well except around the wheel wells anyone else have this problem. Any advice? Looks like i have to trim and bend a new lip. Not sure yet.

Yes you will have to tweak the pans to fight just right.  Just make sure you have them placed so you don't cut or bend too much.

thanks for the tip I finally fell into some free time and want to finish this up. Any tips on removing the metal around the wheel well area on the trunk panel. I was thinking of trimming and rebending the L bend that spot welds to the wheel well.

What do you mean? Are you referring to the remnants of the trunk floor that are spot welded onto the inner wheel house?

The old trunk pan is completly removed. The newntrunk pan where the wheel  housing and new trunk pan meet there  is a 1/4  inch gap, the cuve of the pan dosnt mmat the curve of the wheel housing.

I would try flattening out the bend and trimming to fit around the wheel well.  Do more of a butt weld.  the only real reason tor the lip is factory spot welds to attach.

I also used a two piece trunk pan in my '70 'Cuda.  You can refer to pages 12 and 13 of the below link for fitment.  Sorry the pics are in exact order.  Good luck.   :2thumbs:

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

The edge of the inner wheel house floats and attaches to the trunk floor/rear seat floor lip. You can pull the inner over to the trunk floor lip if it's only 1/4" away when sitting there with several pairs of vise grips. Don't forget to drill the access holes for the rear shock bolts in those floor pans. Good luck, I'm just doing mine, now, too.
