Clock Stem Removal
« on: June 25, 2012 - 08:50:51 PM »
I have a 1970 Dodge Challenger. I am trying to reface the dash wood grain. My problem is the clock knob. I can't get the screw to loosen up. I even have the special T shaped screwdriver. And I'm the one that put the knob on in the first place! No matter how I juggle the screwdriver I can't get it in the screw slot. I do realize that the screwdriver is offset. I realize what a simple operation this is supposed to be but is is driving me crazy. What am I doing wrong? Does the screw come out clockwise? Thanks

The screw is righthand threaded. Some aftermarket ones are stainless steel that can cause some trouble if they gaul.

I used a little penetrating oil, let this set for 24 hours and a nice craftsman heat treated tip screwdriver using even pressure and lots of caution. This did the trick...

Oh, use a little antisieze when reinstalling if the screw is stainless steel.  :2thumbs:
