Tech question about the MSD-6
« on: February 08, 2005 - 05:48:09 AM »
I decided to go ahead and install the MSD-6 this past weekend & came accross a concern I'm hoping someone on the board can answer for me.

The instructions stated it should not be used with certain coils - I'm assuming that is because of the voltage they put out - so my question is what is the max voltage I can use with this set up.

I have a dual points Accell distributor (I removed the trailing points for this set up) and a 60K volt coil with external ballast resistor (came with the coil).

Any technical advice is appreciated & yes, I already know I should convert to electronic ignition . . .

go to 4secondsflat.com and order one of his coils, about $45.00.  MSD boxes do not use a ballast resistor.
Be sure to observe the correct polarity for the dist pick up and make SURE your wiring technique is not 1/2 asssed and the box is properly grounded

In case anyone cares to know ~ MSD Tech got back with me and advised I could use whatever coil I wanted too, but that the Ballast resistor should be removed as it is no longer necessary.

They didn't mention anything about 1/2 asssed wiring though  :iagree:
