8.75 suregrip
« on: July 30, 2012 - 06:07:36 PM »
I have an extra 489 case  3:23 cone style suregrip.  Wear pattern is good and very little backlash.
Anybody have opinions on what it's worth? If someone is interested I can take pics for you.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

When I was looking they went anywhere from $350 to $750 with most selling in the $500 range based on how sound they were.

Although I'm sure folks will complain you don't have the clutch style.....

Did you test the sure grip to make sure it is good?  Most are worn out from major mileage.

Al, this rearend cam out of a good running car. I know the prior owner and he only
changed it so he could put a 2:76 in. Any good way to test it outside of the axle housing?
I was thinking maybe slide the axles into the carrier and see what happens. Dunno if that
would be a good indicator.

That's what I do.  A worn one, on a hoist, still installed with the tires on, you can hold one tire and move the other tire with a lot of muscle force is bad.   Knowing you could vouch for it is a big plus :2thumbs:

So I slid this diff into my axle housing. Slid the axles in and used a torsion bar on each end to apply leverage.
I could just barely get the axles to move. Is this wore out? Opinions
