1974 cuda seatbelt question
« on: June 26, 2012 - 10:24:16 AM »
when i bought my car it had racing seatbelts/harness in it. that was cool when a guy had hair but i wanted good old factory belts so i found a set. i'm trying to install them but i think i must be missing a bracket. is there a bracket where the belt attaches to the floor under the armrest in the rear seat?

You mean where the front retractor connects under the rear interior quarter panel trim?  There really isn't a bracket, the retractor should have a sizable bolt hole in it.  That bolts directly to the body.

The only thing you might call a "bracket" in the 74's is the piece that mounts to the ceiling where the front shoulder belt threads through to the retractor.  All of the other belt pieces go directly into body holes.

I don't have a good picture of mine from when I took it apart.  However here is the Factory Service Manual (FSM) illustration.  In terms of the FSM the Barracuda is B and the Challenger is J

For some reason your retractor doesn't look quite right to me, I seem to remember it having a plastic shell that went around the unit that was held together by screws.  The belt was threaded through it making it difficult to remove.  I'll try and take a look sometime this evening

those pics make sense but my car doesn't have the recessed panel. thats strange cause it has the interior 1/4 panels with the slots for the belts. thanks for the help.
