shaker base plate
« on: July 01, 2012 - 10:47:11 PM »
Base plate dilema. I bought a four barrel shaker base plate at a swap meet last year and was told it was for a 440 shaker. After installing it it appears to be from a 383 because the bubble sits to high in the hood. I paid $350 for the plate and a repop would cost $600. I can cut the original down and gain more clearance but I hate to mess with an original part. What would you do?

you can cut it & maybe weld in a collar to shrink the hole size back down , you call on cutting an original part , depends on you budget & concience , there werevery few 383 shakers though , I do know of 1

Mine came off a 383 . I cut it down . The first time it was still a little tall and messed up the shaker paint at 100 dollars a pint . Its good now (the second time) and I'm living with the paint scrapes . I'm happy .
