What's it worth?
« on: July 01, 2012 - 05:04:30 PM »
I purchased a 73 Cuda about 3 years ago did a tear down and then life hit.  A lot of craziness from re-careering to the wife leaving me with two little ones.  Well things are much better now but I'm in deep with the back to school thing and other stuff and have no time for a major project.  So I am considering to sell this project to buy a driver quality Cuda that I can enjoy now and tinker with as time permits.  The pics should tell the story and the PO did prime it and cut out most of the quarters.  I'm not sure if the motor and tranny are matching#'s.  I can make out two 7's, which are in the vin but can't tell what the rest is.  On the tranny I don't know where to look?

So, I am not sure what it's worth given today's economic situation but I am leaning towards letting her go to someone who will restore her.  I'm afraid if I keep her she will continue to sit as is.  What's it worth.  What's it worth with the following included; full floor pan, pans behind seat, pan under back seat, 1 pc trunk, drop offs, drip rails, dutchman, lock shield, r l  frame rails and fuel tank mounts.

Thanks,

more pictures would help,,if the parts you have are included are good is a plus ,,but if the frame rails need replaced as you say there are some included then thats alot of work
(front or rear  or all ?)and no detailed pictures of why and what the rest of the underneath looks like,,and no details of the interior of what it may need,,plus you didnt state a motor size and probably not  numbers matching ,,and quarters need bought to replace since there cut off,,and probably alot of welding and replacing on this project,,cost is down on what you show,,me myself  :2cents: $3000 to $5000 would be the most sight unseen   :2cents: just my opinion , not enough detail to judge any different

$3,000 would be tops.  Not sure in this market you could even get that.  Basket cases normally sell for less than a complete car.  As with most of these cars, they are worth more in parts.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

The parts I have are new and needed for this car, including the frame rails.  The plastic parts of the interior are in excellent condition needs carpet and headliner.  The car is complete grill, bumpers, trim pieces, glass except windshield was cracked so didn't survive removal, The engine is a 340 and ran good before tear down as was automatic transmission.

I think $3-5,000 depending on matching numbers or not seeing that it is a real 340 `cuda.

you have a good project but it needs a lot of work so as far as a buyer the cost would be down,,with the work needed its a hard sell unless you find some one willing to tackle it , there lies why its not going to be much money to sell out right,,, if I  had the time and money I would try to buy it to restore but thats the problem in this economy , hard to get  what you have invested to get back , I hate to see any car parted out but it will be the only way to get over $3000 out of of it   :2cents:

It was a very difficult situation for my boys (3 and 5 yrs old) as they have no way of understanding these things.  It left both sides of the family very stunned as there were no signs of problems.  I certainly didn't see it coming.  But we have worked things out and are back together and better than ever.  I am certainly not a perfect man so I would not want anyone to think me innocent.  It is scary how many women are leaving their families these days. Look up some stats.

Back to Cuda stuff;  I am talking with a restoration shop that has been in business over 25 years.  They are going to come to me and give me an estimate on installing the sheetmetal I have and quarters.  They have done a lot of classic cars in the area and are only about 2 miles from my home.

Ouch guys!  But you all are saying what I expected to hear, unfortunately.  It is a very complete car....except for what has returned to the earth. :)  I did some poking around and found matching #'s on radiator support and cowl but the engine and transmission are not so I am very confident about it being a 340 Cuda.  I am torn on trying to sell the car and the metal I have together...probably at a loss and then buying a more solid Cuda or paying someone to replace the metal behind the door (quarters, frame rails, trunk etc.) and doing the rest as time permits.  I don't think I could part it out as I metioned before the car is very complete and was running before tear down.

Or what if someone has a very nice 72-74 shell or one that has completed metal work and I just move all my parts to it.  I could then accept selling my Cuda shell with the sheetmetal for cheap.
