87 Swirl Port Heads
« on: March 11, 2012 - 06:56:01 PM »
Ok guys, I have a question. I am slowly compiling parts for the resto and rebuild of the 318. There is a guy locally selling a completely fresh set of 1987 swirl ports heads ported and set up by Hughes, new shafts, rockers, springs valves(1.88) and camshaft .470/.480 range on the lift, .220 @ .050.

I am building a driver with AC but this appears to be a good deal. What kind of power are these heads capable of on a 9.5:1 318 and what is the complete package worth approximately?

My build will be a driver with AC for the wife on her occasional drives. Nothing exotic, 2.72 gears and a 904.

I am really interested in the cylinder heads but don't want to pay too much, and dont want to have to change a lot of other components, ie pushrods, lifters and such for a head swap. I believe these are direct bolt ons, correct?

Thanks in advance for any help.

By the time you buy all new valves , do all the clean up , maching & porting + new springs  it would run $1100-1300 typically .
I have had great success using the 302/308 casting heads

Dito great 318 heads, ports can be easily enlarged to 4 Barrel sizes, small heart shaped chambers, the to upgrade to 1.88 in. ,1.60 ex. is also good.
