Coolest way to change steering box pitman arm seal

I have read about this method to change the pitman arm seal. Thought I'd give it a try.
1. Remove the nut
2. Pull the arm off
3. Remove the dust seal
4. Remove the lock ring
5. Remove the washer
6. Then for the cool part... Put a pan under the steering box, start the engine and turn the steering wheel as far as it goes to raise the pressure. I heard something pop. Turned the engine off and checked the seal. Sure enough, the seal had popped out!

I've heard that one too.  The only problem is that you can only do that with a running car.  It doesn't do much good on a bench.  I just drilled a very small hole in the seal and threaded in a sheetrock screw.  I pulled it right out with a pair of plyers.

Mine is leaking too but I decided now would be a good time to upgrade to a firm feel box.

 Yeah, great info, never would have thought of that. I went with FF at seal time also. Kept the 1970 core though as they are getting kinda rare.
