71 Challenger Gull Wing Install on Decklid w/o Holes
« on: June 12, 2012 - 09:58:08 AM »
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the First Place Auto Parts 71 Gull Wing spoiler for our Challenger. I was looking at our decklid this morning and noticed there were no spoiler mounting provisions as are pictured on this decklid:

Will this be a problem when it comes to mounting? Someone mentioned that I may have to notch the bottom of the decklid to make way for the underside brackets. Any truth to this?

Also, does anyone have measurements of how this spoiler should mount on my trunk lid?

I believe you would have to notch the decklid. But doesn't FPAP give a template for this?
I would give them a call. They seem first rate.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I'm pretty sure you can buy the decklid with the cutouts already....

I am aware of that but I am not interested in buying a new decklid as ours is already fit and painted.

I have a call into FPAP but I have not heard back from them yet.

I just got off the phone with Fritz from FPAP and he told me it would not be an issue on the Challenger. Other cars require more work, but we should be good to go. He said they include the dimensions as well. I will report back after the install!  :cooldancing:

Just curious, what year Challenger is this going on?  Not all years had the hole cut outs.

The car is a 71 but the decklid is an aftermarket part.

I picked up the wing yesterday. I am very impressed with every part. No generic hardware, this part is top notch. We requested it not be primed so we could put our own finish on it. We will prime it later this week and get it installed.

We finally had a change to get the spoiler on. We finished it with flattened SPI Black Epoxy. We contemplated using the correct "Organosol " black however we have always had great luck with the SPI products and we had plenty of it so we went with it (not to mention it is much more affordable). Few things on our car are concours correct anyhow. We are very happy with the results!
