Depending on how long you are going to be here you may be able to register it in an individual state in order to obtain insurance. For example in MA, you can drive here for up to one year on a valid foreign license. If you become a resident of MA you are able (actually required) to register your car in MA at your new address and then obtain minimum liability insurance. Once that is set, you can drive your car anywhere in the 50 states and Canada under reciprocity agreements. As far as becoming a resident goes, you just need an address that you're staying at during the time your visa is valid. It's kind of an end run around the system, but legal here. I don't know how the specific laws work in the state you intend on visiting, but they may be similar.
That will get you at least liability insurance in order to drive. If you want collector car insurance (full value of vehicle) you may have to call Hagerty, Grundy or one of the other specialty insurance providers to see if they can help you out. I don't know offhand if there is a legal way to drive on a Dutch registration in the US. The only time I've seen foreign plates here is on US service members who had their cars imported from their foreign bases, and they're covered under USAA military insurance, or foreign diplomats.
Enjoy your trip!
