Filling body side molding holes
« on: July 15, 2012 - 05:00:37 PM »
Hey,
Just removed the body side molding from my '73 cuda (ugly aftermarket kind) and wanted to know the best way to fill the holes...

Just trying to clean it up now, but it will have to have a repaint down the road

Thanks !

Victor

The correct way to do it is weld `em up.

 :iagree:

And I'll go a bit further- welding them up is the only RIGHT way to do it. I suppose you could lead them if you know someone that can work lead, but that'd be harder than welding them up.

Body filler will absorb moisture, and since it will hang out the back of the hole, there's no way to seal it properly. The end result will be the filler will absorb moisture, swell and crack the paint, and even cause rust damage around the holes.

+1 for welding them up.  A copper backing plate works well but can be a PITA in the wheel well area.  Got to get creative on holding it in place.
