How many cans of undercoating will it take?
« on: July 24, 2012 - 02:53:43 PM »
One of these days coming up, I plan on crawling underneath the old chally and spraying the whole underneath with undercoating.  Now I do have undercoating on the other side of my front fenders, and the outside part of the engine bay is all covered with POR-15.  Plus under the quarter panels is undercoated as well.  I'd like to undercoat the rest of the bottom of the car, as well as paint my rear end while I'm under there.  Gonna be one hot messy job, but it needs to be done. Anyone know about how many cans of undercoating it will take?? What about what kind to get? I know there are a few different options.  I liked the POR-15 but it is soooo expensive and stains ya if you get it on your skin, so I'm going to pass on it.  I used regular rubberized undercoating on the back of the fenders...Liked it's ease of application, wished it would've had more "rubber particles" if you know what I mean.  I have seen some people use truck bed coating in a can as well.  Anyway, how many cans, what kind, brand preference...any help appreciated.

The factory undercoating had a very heavy texture to it.  You won't be able to replicate that texture with undercoating in a can.  Resto Rick sell undercoating by the gallon that (when sprayed properly) will mimick the factory undercoating.  It needs to be sprayed out of a shutz gun though.  Resto Rick's undercoating is $60 per gallon.  It takes a gallon just to do the front and rear wheelwells.  It will take a lot more to do the whole underside.

raptor makes a good spray in bed liner that I used on a jeep that I am doing , I did the bottom and inside the tub with 2 gallons , and it looks great . Plus if you really wanted to you could buy the tint-able version and use your color of choice to add to it and match the color of the car , thats how I did the inside of my jeep , thinking of doing the inside of my trunk and underneath of my challenger
